Private finance that lives entirely on your iPhone
Thrust is a personal finance app built for iPhone running iOS 26 or later, and the entire app runs locally on your device without storing your financial records on Thrust's servers. The app detects recurring subscription charges by scanning your own transaction history on your iPhone, shows you how much you can spend today after accounting for upcoming bills and budget limits, and displays a forecast of your balance at month-end. All calculations run on-device, and optional iCloud sync is private, using only your personal iCloud account.
Thrust is built around the idea that your financial data should never leave your phone unless you explicitly choose to sync it. Where most budgeting apps ask for your bank login and hold your transaction history in the cloud, Thrust analyzes everything locally and keeps your data in an encrypted database on your iPhone. The app works completely offline: you can ask it questions about your spending in an airplane mode, and it will answer from the data already on your device.
How subscriptions are tracked and entered
Thrust does not ask for your bank login and does not connect to your bank. Instead, you bring in your transaction history by importing a CSV file from your bank, uploading a PDF bank statement, scanning a receipt for instant optical character recognition, or logging your Apple Pay purchases with a one-time Shortcut. Manual entry is also available. Once your transaction history is in Thrust, the app scans it automatically and identifies recurring charges on your iPhone with on-device AI.
In the free tier, you can enter subscriptions manually. Automatic detection of recurring charges is part of Thrust Pro: the app runs on-device and identifies charges that repeat on a regular cadence, turns each one into a tracked subscription with a renewal date and amount, and even flags when a bill goes up so a price increase does not slip past you unnoticed. Free-tier users have manual subscription tracking included with no limit, and any subscription you enter appears in your customizable Hub alongside budgets, goals, and assets.
Subscriptions are displayed with renewal dates, monthly cost, and the next expected charge. You can view them in either a card view or a calendar view, and mark each one as paid when you pay it manually, which automatically rolls the renewal date forward to the next charge. The Hub is customizable: you drag to reorder, show or hide subscriptions, budgets, goals, and assets, and pin what matters most to the top. Every card updates in real time and runs entirely on your device.
Thrust supports 20+ currencies with automatic exchange-rate conversion, so if you pay for one subscription in dollars, another in euros, and a third in zloty, the app converts them all into your base currency and shows your real monthly total. This feature is built in for travelers, remote workers, and anyone earning or spending across borders.
Budgets, forecasts, and what you can spend today
Thrust uses a zero-based budgeting model: you set a monthly limit for each spending category, and the app tracks your pace through the month against that limit, projecting where you will land by month-end. As you spend, the app warns you when you approach your limit and alerts you if a category goes over, rather than leaving you to discover overspending after the fact.
The core concept is "Available to Spend": the app calculates how much money you can spend right now without missing upcoming payments or breaking your budgets. It takes your liquid balance (cash and savings accounts only, excluding investments and crypto), deducts all recurring payments due in the next 30 days in full, reserves a portion of each active budget based on days remaining in the period, and reserves the required monthly contribution for each goal with a deadline. The result is the amount you can safely spend today. If you have no budgets, goals, or recurring payments set up, the available-to-spend number equals your total cash and savings balance.
Thrust includes a 30-day cash-flow forecast showing upcoming cash flow. If you upgrade to Thrust Pro, you can run a "Life Plan" that forecasts your finances across a longer horizon: the free tier previews the first 10 years, while Pro unlocks the full horizon to age 90 by default, plus outcome ranges and the estimated chance of reaching a financial target. This lets you test scenarios like a home purchase, a child, income changes, windfalls, or major expenses to see whether your plan holds.
For credit cards, Thrust displays your current debt, credit utilization, and minimum payment due. The app categorizes utilization as good (under 30%), caution (30 to 50%), or high (over 50%), and you can set a custom APR and minimum payment percentage for each credit card in account settings.
Pricing and what the free tier covers
Thrust is free to download, with no Thrust account required. The free tier includes up to 5 accounts, 3 budgets, and 3 savings goals, plus manual subscription entry and the full offline tracking and analysis features. Automatic recurring-charge detection and price-hike alerts are reserved for Thrust Pro, as are higher account limits and advanced features like the Life Plan horizon beyond 10 years, stock and crypto tracking, and the on-device AI CFO assistant.
The site does not publish a price for Thrust Pro, and the free-to-Pro comparison page does not state a monthly or annual cost. To learn the Pro price or to upgrade, you will need to download the app and view the pricing from within it, or contact Thrust's support. Given the feature set in the free tier, the app is genuinely usable at no cost if you want subscription tracking, budgets, and forecasts up to the limits listed. The choice between free and Pro depends on whether you need automatic subscription detection, higher limits on accounts and budgets, asset tracking, or the long-horizon financial forecast.
Who Thrust is built for and who it is not
Thrust is designed for people who care deeply about privacy and want their financial data to stay on their own device. If you use an iPhone, value on-device processing over convenience, and want a budgeting tool that works offline, Thrust is a strong fit. It is also well-suited to anyone who manages finances across multiple currencies, tracks cryptocurrency or stocks alongside cash, or prefers not to hand over bank credentials to a third party.
Thrust is not available for Android; it runs on iPhone only. It also requires you to bring in your transaction history manually or import a file, rather than connecting to your bank with a login, so if you expect automatic bank syncing to populate your transactions for you, Thrust is not the right choice. The free tier limits you to 3 budgets and 3 goals, which is enough to get started but may not suit someone with a complex financial situation. Automatic subscription detection is a Pro feature. If automatic recurring-charge discovery is essential and you do not want to pay for Pro, the free tier still gives you unlimited manual subscription tracking, you will just be adding renewals by hand instead of having Thrust find them for you.
