Paycheck-based cash-flow forecasting for iOS

PayCheck Budget is a mobile-only budgeting app built for how people actually get paid. Made for iOS, it runs on iPhone, iPad, and Apple Watch, and works completely offline for day-to-day use. The app's core job is to take the irregularity out of paycheck-to-paycheck living: set your pay schedule, add irregular paychecks as they come, assign each bill to the paycheck that should cover it, and the app continuously calculates what is truly safe to spend before your next deposit. It is built for people paid weekly, biweekly, semi-monthly, or monthly, and for anyone with bonuses, overtime, freelance income, or irregular earnings stacked on top of a regular schedule.

The product is simple in premise but does something most budgeting apps skip: it replaces your bank balance with a "safe to spend" number that reflects not just what you have today but what you still need for bills before the next payday. That is the entire UX. There is no account to create, no bank linking, and no company servers holding your data.

How income enters the system

PayCheck Budget has no bank linking and never asks you to connect a bank account. It is manual entry only. You set your regular pay schedule first, weekly, biweekly, semi-monthly, or monthly, and then add any extra paychecks, bonuses, overtime, or freelance income as distinct entries with a name, date, and amount. The app handles unlimited irregular paychecks, so a second biweekly paycheck from a side job or a bonus in December is just another entry alongside your regular schedule.

The app works completely offline. It syncs your budget only to your private iCloud account and to any partner you choose to share with; no internet connection is needed for adding paychecks, assigning bills, or checking your balance. Partner sharing uses iCloud to sync changes in real time, which means both partners need to be signed into iCloud and have PayCheck Budget installed. One person generates a share link from the app's settings, and the other accepts it. All changes sync instantly between both devices.

PayCheck Budget does not connect to your bank, credit union, or payment processor. If you have accounts at multiple banks, you would need to manually add paychecks and bills from each one. The app includes receipt scanning with optical character recognition (OCR) that can extract merchant name, date, and amount from a photo, so logging expenses is faster than typing, but entry is still manual.

How the budgeting workflow actually works

Every paycheck is a bucket. When you add a bill, you tag it with the paycheck that should cover it, rent to your first-of-the-month check, car insurance to your mid-month check, groceries to next week's deposit. The app then shows a rolling 30-day cash-flow forecast that displays your balance after each upcoming paycheck and its assigned bills. Money is accounted for the moment a paycheck arrives, not estimated by month the way most apps work.

The core number is "safe to spend": how much you can spend today without a bill going unpaid before your next deposit. The app updates this number continuously as you add expenses and as payday approaches. It also shows you the lowest point your balance will hit before your next paycheck, so you can see a tight stretch weeks in advance and plan accordingly.

The app includes a "Can I Afford It?" feature: tap it from any paycheck, ask a specific question like "Can I afford $120 on groceries?", and the app returns a yes or no with details including days until your next paycheck, your safety buffer, and how much budget that category has left. There is a savings goals feature where you set a target amount and due date, and the app calculates how much you need to save from each paycheck to reach your goal on time. It is built for multiple income earners on different schedules, both partners appear in one shared plan. For tracking, the app can export your budget data as a PDF or CSV through the Search & Reports feature.

A conversational assistant called PayCheck Buddy runs on your device and answers budget questions in plain English: "How much did I spend on dining last month?", "Help me plan for buying a house", "What is my biggest spending category?" It works without sending your data to a server.

Pricing and what the free tier includes

New users get 30 days of full access with no card or subscription required. After the trial ends, eligible U.S. customers can choose between two pricing tiers. The monthly subscription is listed at $3.99 per month, described as an "introductory price for the first 12 months for eligible customers." The annual option is $29.99 per year, also an "introductory price for the first year for eligible customers." Both prices are managed through Apple's App Store subscription system.

The pricing page does not specify what happens to the price after the introductory period, so the ongoing cost for existing subscribers is not published on this page. Refund requests are handled by Apple through the App Store, not directly by PayCheck Budget; you can request a refund through Apple's report-a-problem tool, and the company notes that if you are having issues with the app, you can email support directly. Subscriptions are tied to your Apple ID, so they automatically transfer to new devices.

The app requires iOS 17.0 or later and works on iPhone, iPad, and Apple Watch. It does not work on Android or the web. Dual-income household features, partner sharing, savings goals, receipt scanning, and offline budgeting are included on the free trial, and no separate premium features are mentioned. The features available on a paid subscription after the trial are not detailed on this page.

Who this app suits, and who it doesn't

PayCheck Budget is built for people whose income does not fit a clean monthly salary: anyone paid weekly, biweekly, or semi-monthly; anyone with irregular, freelance, or bonus income layered on top of a regular paycheck; and dual-income households where partners are paid on different schedules. It is particularly useful for people who want to know exactly how far ahead they can spend without missing a bill.

The app does not work on Android, so if you use Android phones or tablets, PayCheck Budget is not an option. It requires iOS 17.0 or later, which means older iPhones cannot run it. If you pay for budgeting by syncing your actual bank accounts and watching transactions appear automatically, this is not the app for you; the manual-entry design means you log what you spend, and there is no transaction import from banks or credit cards. The app also does not connect to credit unions or smaller banks. If your budgeting needs extend to investing, loans, credit cards, or long-term financial planning, PayCheck Budget does not address those areas, it is a paycheck-and-cash-flow tool, not a full financial platform.

The privacy design means no company can see your money or your spending patterns, which is a strength for anyone concerned about privacy. It also means no syncing across devices except through iCloud, so the app is not a choice if you use both Apple and Android devices. The introductory pricing is US-only, and there is no information on whether the app works outside the US or what currency it accepts.
