Open the template gallery in Google Sheets and a couple of ready-made budget templates sit right alongside the invoice and calendar templates, no separate download or sign-up required. The Annual Budget template breaks income and spending out by month across a full year, while the Monthly Budget template is built for tracking one month at a time in more granular categories. Both come with formulas already wired up, so you fill in numbers and the totals, percentages, and simple charts update on their own.
There’s no bank connection of any kind here, every transaction goes in by hand unless you build your own import process with a script or a separate connector. Google added a feature in 2026 called Sheets Canvas that can generate a more visual, dashboard-style layout from a plain-text prompt describing what you want tracked, which narrows the gap with paid budgeting software somewhat. It suits anyone who already lives in Google’s ecosystem and wants something free and immediately usable over a polished dedicated app.
