Microsoft Create, the company’s template hub, hosts a free set of budget spreadsheets covering a few common situations: a simple personal budget, a more detailed monthly budget broken out by category, and a family budget meant to track shared household expenses across more than one person’s income. The templates open directly in Excel, with totals, subtotals, and a handful of basic charts built in so the math is already done for you.
You can use them with a Microsoft 365 subscription on desktop, or for free through Excel on the web with a Microsoft account and no paid plan at all. There’s no automated transaction import, so every entry comes from typing numbers in yourself or copying them over from a bank statement. It’s a natural fit for anyone who already uses Excel at work and would rather stay in a familiar tool than learn a new app just to track a budget at home.
